In power module design, a small selection of inductance often affects the performance and reliability of the entire product. Recently, Gu Jing encountered a tricky case from a new customer in Zhejiang: the customer insisted on using a 0510 packaged color ring inductor in the initial selection of the power module for the new case, requiring a inductance of 150uH and a rated current of 300mA.

However, the domestic brand supplier that the customer originally cooperated with only had a maximum current of 175mA for the same packaged product. In actual use, the product suffered from severe overheating and its performance could not meet the standards, causing the project to come to a standstill.

Faced with the strict requirement of customers that the packaging cannot be changed, the Gujing technical team responded quickly and analyzed the crux of the problem in depth. The core of the problem lies in the insufficient saturation magnetic flux density of traditional magnetic cores, which cannot carry higher currents in small packages and generate unsaturated heat. So, we decisively recommended the 0510 color ring inductor using the exclusive high saturation magnetic flux density core of Gujing, with a inductance of 150uH, aiming to improve the current carrying capacity from the material source.

The sample will be delivered to the customer's hands as soon as possible. After actual testing, the current requirement of 300mA has been successfully met, proving the correctness of our material route. But the customer technical team, who strives for excellence, has pointed out that the originally planned 150uH sensor has affected the overall balance and current carrying characteristics in the actual circuit, and needs to be adjusted.

This is not a simple specification change, but requires a deeper understanding of the application circuit. Gujing technical engineers have conducted in-depth communication with the customer's technical department, analyzing in detail the technical details and performance requirements of the entire case. Based on sufficient communication and analysis, we quickly provided new samples of 180uH and 220uH for customers to test and verify.

In the end, the test data brought delightful results: the 220uH inductance perfectly met all requirements. Its resistance remains stable between 1.68 Ω and 1.7 Ω, with a sensing range of 215uH-232uH. Especially when loaded with a current of 0.4A, the rate of change in inductance is only 0.9%, fully meeting the long-term working requirements of 300mA. More importantly, the previously headache inducing issue of 'severe burning' has been completely resolved. The customer is very satisfied with this and the product has entered the stage of small-scale matching.
